I am directed by Er. Secretary amery to inform you that subject to your being passed by the Medical Adviser to this Department as physically fit for service, he proposes to select you for appointment as Lecturer and Tutor in English at the University of Hongkong. You will be required to lecture on English books and to give tutorial instruction (including individual intensive instruction) in the English language. You will receive salary at the rate of £450 for the first year, £470 for the second year and £490 for the third year, payable in the Colony in dollars at the rate of 2 shillings to the dollar, except when the dollar falls at the end of any month below 2 shillings, in which case the equivalent of the salary in sterling is paid in dollars at the current rate of exchange. The appointment is under the University of Hongkong and your emoluments
